Establish your swimming ability

For your child to progress it is vital that they receive tuition that suits their ability. Please feel free to use our Swimming ability matrix to give you a rough idea of which of our classes would suit your child best. This is however offered only as a general guide as we appreciate that every child is different so we would welcome the opportunity to discuss more fully their current swimming ability with you.

Is you child over 4 years of age?

Yes No

Your child is probably most suited to our Pre-School class, however we appreciate every child is different so would welcome the opportunity to discuss their current swimming ability with you further so we can confirm this or recommend more suitable tuition for them

Can your child...

Enter the water unaided?
Show the ability to float?
Kick for 5m on their front and back using a float?
Move through the water (with minimal assistance) confidently and consistently on front or back for 5 metres?
Confidently put their face into the water and show control of breathing?

Swim 10m on their front and back using recognizable strokes?
Understand basic breathing techniques used when swimming?
Confident in deep water?

Your child is probably most suited to our Beginners Two class however we appreciate every child is different so would welcome the opportunity to discuss their current swimming ability with you further so we can confirm this or recommend more suitable tuition for them

Can your child...

Swim 25m competently using front crawl, backcrawl, and breastroke?
Have a basic understanding of Butterfly?
Tread water in deep water?

Can your child...

Swim 50m front crawl and backstroke with controlled technique and good/relaxed breathing skills?
Swim 15m breaststroke with good, relaxed breathing skills?
Swim 10m Butterfly full stroke with good, relaxed breathing skills?
Perform competition starts and turns?

Your child is probably most suited to our Stroke Development class however we appreciate every child is different so would welcome the opportunity to discuss their current swimming ability with you further so we can confirm this or recommend more suitable tuition for them

The top level class that we offer is our Swimfit class. This class is geared for children who want to prepare to join a swimming club or who just simply enjoy swimming and want to keep fit. Emphasis is on training, stamina building, perfecting stroke technique, competitive starts/turns etc. We are also happy to recommend a swimming club local to you if you want to progress your childs swimming further after this class.
